Highlights from MADwithComms 2.0 – The Power of Now

From great conversations to good cheer, Making a Difference with Communications (MADwithComms) 2.0 was all we expected it to be and more. After the success of MADwithComms 1.0 which was put together to celebrate World PR Day in July, it was a no brainer for us to host a second edition. And so for the second time, Sahara Group and The Comms Avenue came together to provide young Communications professionals with a platform to learn, network and gain tips on how to hit the ground running in the new year.

Just like the first edition, MADwithComms 2.0 brought together Communications professionals from across Lagos to have conversations around the theme of the event, “The Power of NOW”. Aside from the professionals who attended from Lagos, we also had professionals from Ibadan who joined us for the event. For us, this further reinforced how valuable this event is for Communications professionals

As always, our speakers, Mrs Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami, Group Head, Brand and Marketing, Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC and Mr Bethel Obioma, Head, Corporate Communications, Sahara Group, brought their A-game with the nuggets and valuable lessons that they shared during the panel conversation and answering the questions that the professionals had.

Here are some of the key nuggets they shared:

If you work in Communications, you must keep yourself up to date with information. You need to read for the industry where you are. Study the trends and help clients stay abreast of what’s happening. Ensure that you are also proactive in communicating to the business teams. Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami

As a Communications professional, never put yourself in a position where you’re the last person that’s reached out to in the organisation. Insert yourself into every crevice of the business and always create value within your organisation. Bethel Obioma

Evaluate who you are and determine how you want to play in the power of now. If you step into open doors, ensure you maximise the opportunities within those doors. It is also important to make yourself a solution provider and keep yourself educated. Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami

– Pursuit is the greatest expression you can give to desire. You position for opportunities by pursuing. You pursue opportunities by being ready, investing in yourself, your demeanour, and the little things within your power. Bethel Obioma

Beyond the conversations, it was great to see attendees making new connections with peers within the industry. We also loved how the event gave them valuable information they can use to prepare their Communications plans for 2024.

Here’s how Christian Agu put it in his feedback:

“My experience at the MADwithComms 2.0 event has been exciting and really great. I got to learn how to collaborate with team members and how to prioritise my growth and prepare for opportunities in 2024. I’m hoping to implement everything I’ve learned today.”

Indeed, MADwithComms 2.0 was a great learning and networking experience. Being our final event, we’re glad to be ending 2023 on such a high note. We are also looking forward to seeing how our attendees will leverage the power of NOW to hit the ground running in the new year!

If you missed this great event. watch out for details of MADwithComms 3.0 in the new year.
