What Does a Typical Workday Look Like for You?

A typical workday for me begins with checking my schedule and reviewing my communication objectives to prioritise tasks. Most of my time is spent developing and implementing communication materials, proofreading reports, creating content for social media, and transforming complex reports into clear, easy-to-understand fact sheets or infographics. I also document success stories and publish them on platforms to showcase project impact.

Collaboration is an important part of my day. I regularly share ideas and support colleagues with content development and graphics, helping to ensure that all communications are clear, engaging, and effective. Ad hoc tasks often arise, so I stay flexible and adjust my priorities as needed.

When I have some free time, I explore communication resources and tools to improve my skills and stay updated with best practices.

Currently, I support projects such as the Western Indian Ocean Governance Initiative, the Ikikwale Tanga project, and the Water and Biodiversity Climate Cluster, working closely with implementing partners and project teams to deliver high-quality communications consistently.

Do You Have Any Specific Routines or Habits That Help You Prepare for Work?

Before starting work, I have routines that help me prepare for the day. I usually take a moment to set my intentions for a productive day. I complete any pending tasks from the previous day to start fresh. I also plan for upcoming tasks and sometimes develop concept notes to advise my manager on communication approaches, particularly when technical teams need guidance on effectively reaching and educating beneficiaries.

These routines help me stay organised, anticipate needs, and ensure that communications are clear, impactful, and aligned with our objectives.

What Tools or Apps Do You Use Most Often in Your Job, and Why?

I use several artificial intelligence (AI) tools in my work, including ChatGPT and premium AI features. I do not rely on AI to create work for me. Instead, I craft my ideas first and then use ChatGPT to help refine them into articles or other communication materials. I often shorten the output to keep it concise and engaging for readers.

I also use an AI tool called LMA Reina. This tool allows me to compare outputs from ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools so I can verify information and choose the most accurate content.

Within GIZ, we have an internal AI tool called KIM. KIM guides internal and external processes, such as procurement procedures, helping new staff navigate GIZ systems and operations. These tools support my work by improving accuracy, efficiency, and the quality of the content I produce.

If You Weren’t in Communications, What Career Path Would You Explore?

I enjoy marketing within the private sector because it comes with targets and challenges, and I love the opportunity to express my ideas. In non-governmental organisations or non-profits, sometimes ideas may not be adopted due to budget constraints, especially within communications, which often receives less funding than technical areas.

I also enjoy collaboration and problem-solving. Outside of communications, I used to produce music using FL Studio, and I am interested in video directing and software development, as I enjoy creating solutions through technology.

What is Your Favourite Way to Relax After Work?

My favourite way to relax after work is to spend time with friends and colleagues discussing ideas and supporting each other on different consultancy projects. I also enjoy watching football and playing PlayStation.
