Aizehi Itua found his interest in Comms as a teenager and several years later, he’s the Founder of Aim One Company. Aizehi’s interview with us takes us through his career journey and he also gives valuable advice to professionals interested in founding their own agencies.
How did you begin your career in Communications?
My career in Communications started when I was appointed as the Youth PRO for my church as a teenager, making me the youngest person ever to hold the position. This early opportunity ignited my passion for storytelling and human connection, showing me how powerful and effective communication can be despite being inexperienced.
I went on to earn a first degree in Mass Communications, which provided a solid foundation for my career. Over time, I have worn several hats, which include Journalism, Content Creation, and Public Relations, honing my ability to craft compelling messages that resonate with diverse audiences. This varied experience has shaped my journey, allowing me to develop a strong understanding of corporate messaging and brand storytelling.
Tell us about your role as the Founder of Aim One Company.
As the Founder of Aim One Company, I steer the company’s vision and ensure that we catalyse brands looking to win or stay winning. Every brand aspires to succeed, and we provide the strategic solutions that enable them to do so.
Our end-to-end Marketing solutions cover everything from Brand development to execution, ensuring that our clients achieve their goals with tangible returns.
I am deeply involved in strategy development, client relations, and leading our talented team, ensuring that we deliver on our promise of impactful communication. My focus is on helping brands tell authentic stories that resonate with their audiences while also adapting to the ever-changing dynamics of the Communications and Marketing landscape.
Can you share some challenges you’ve faced on your career journey and how you were able to overcome them?
One of the significant challenges I faced was navigating the rapidly changing media and technology landscape. As digital transformation shifted how we communicate, I had to constantly evolve, staying ahead of trends and adopting new tools.
Another challenge was managing cross-cultural Communications, especially with global clients. I overcame these challenges by committing to continuous learning, staying adaptable, and embracing new platforms and perspectives. Building a strong network of mentors and peers has also been instrumental in navigating these shifts.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career in Communications?
The most rewarding aspect has been the opportunity to make a tangible impact on brands and organisations through strategic storytelling. Whether it’s helping a brand find its voice or crafting a campaign that sparks conversation, the ability to shape narratives and create lasting impressions is deeply fulfilling.
Additionally, mentoring younger professionals and witnessing their growth has been equally rewarding, as it allows me to give back to the industry that has given me so much.
Can you provide examples of resources or learning opportunities that you found particularly beneficial for your career growth?
Several resources have played a critical role in my career development. Participating in global forums like the World Bank Group Youth Summit and ForbesBLK exposed me to new perspectives and strategies.
I also found mentorship programs, such as the Comms Mentoring Programme by The Comms Avenue, incredibly beneficial. Being a two-time mentor also inspired the Aim One Marketing Mentorship Program. They provided real-world insights and networking opportunities that were invaluable to my growth. I regularly consume industry reports and case studies to stay informed about emerging trends.
What advice do you have for professionals interested in starting an agency?
Be intentional. Know what you want to achieve and ensure every step aligns with your vision. It’s essential to be conscious of the stage you’re in—don’t pressurise yourself to be fruitful when you’re in your vegetative growth phase.
Every phase of growth is vital, and it’s important to nurture your agency patiently. Building an agency takes resilience, so patience and adaptability are key. Invest in relationships—your network will be one of your greatest assets.
Finally, never stop learning. The Communications industry is constantly evolving, and being able to pivot and innovate will set your agency apart in the long run.
