What does a typical workday look like for you?

My typical workday kicks off at 6 am. I like to start early, and the first thing I do is check my emails and WhatsApp for any urgent messages from clients or teammates. I also review the social media accounts I manage, some of them are linked to my phone, just in case there’s a fire to put out before the day properly begins.

After that, I take a few minutes to stay still and settle into the day before diving into any communication. I check our team WhatsApp group to catch up on pending tasks and follow up on what needs attention from the weekend. By 9 am, we usually have our daily team check-in where everyone shares their to-do list for the day and weekly goals.

From there, my day can go in different directions. If there’s a client meeting, I jump on a call (we’re a fully remote team, so 80% of our meetings are virtual). If necessary, I’ll head to a client’s office, but most times, I’m working from my laptop.

Midday is for strategy sessions with my co-founder, where we plan our moves for the week and talk about client acquisition. We’re constantly thinking about new ways to reach brands and grow.

Later in the day, I do team follow-ups just to check in and make sure everyone is doing okay (especially because… Lagos. No light, bad internet… things happen). I don’t micromanage, but I like staying in the loop.

By 6 pm, I try to shut my laptop and go for a run or a long walk. When I return, I do one final email check to make sure I haven’t missed anything important. That’s usually how the day wraps up.

Do you have any specific routines or habits that help you prepare for work?

Yes, I’m a morning person, so I try to do all my important tasks between 6 am and 12 pm that’s when I have the most energy and focus. Afternoon, I’m still productive, but reserve that time for lighter tasks.

I also rely heavily on tools like:

  • My Notes App – for jotting down ideas, to-dos, and quick reminders
  • Trello – for managing tasks and assigning projects to team members
  • Canva – for designing proposals, client decks, and some graphics (I do a bit of graphic design myself)
  • WhatsApp – which is basically the control room: client conversations, team check-ins, new leads, everything happens there

What tools or apps do you use most often in your job, and why?

In addition to the ones I already mentioned, Google Workspace is essential:

  • Google Meet – for team and client meetings
  • Google Drive, Sheets, Docs – for collaboration and storing everything
  • Notion – we use this for documentation and more long-form planning

So my productivity stack really revolves around Trello, Google tools, Notion, Canva, and WhatsApp.

If you weren’t working in Communications, what career path would you explore?

It would definitely still be something in media. I’ve always known I wanted to work in this space, I just wasn’t sure where exactly. Maybe I’d be managing talents or creatives, or even producing a series. Not in front of the camera, definitely not acting or directing, but something behind the scenes. I love strategy and managing people, so probably something in that lane.

What’s your favorite way to relax after work?

Running is my number one go-to, I try to do that in the evenings. Outside of that, I’m a huge content person. Reality shows, TV series, documentaries, I watch a lot. It helps me unplug and escape from work mode. I also read a lot more now. This year, I committed to reading more consistently.
